PS1 - Game Engines, SDKs & Libraries List

Developing games for the original PlayStation has always required specialized tools, from Sony's official development environments of the 1990s to the open-source SDKs and libraries created by the homebrew community today. This list brings together the different SDKs, libraries, game engines and development tools available for PlayStation 1 development, covering both historical and modern projects.

Whether you are looking to start your first PS1 homebrew project, explore the tools used by developers during the console's original lifespan or find modern alternatives for development, this list provides an overview of the available options. Use the filters to find projects by type, programming language, license, or status.

Language refers to the programming language required to make games with that tool. A - means the tool is visual / no coding is required.

Green: Mature, fully working projects. They may or may not still receive updates or bug fixes.
Yellow: Projects in active development, still awaiting further updates. Somewhat experimental, with several aspects still to be finished.
Gray / Red: Discontinued projects that stayed in an experimental phase. May be buggy or missing features.
